The 42nd Shark World Championships will be held at the sailing club “Ebensee” (SCE)
in Ebensee Austria from May 21 – 27, 2007. SCE is honoured to be chosen to host this prestigious
sailing event.
The Austrian sailing enthusiasts are hoping that their best shark sailing team comprising of Kratochwill, Felsecker & Lackerbauer (AUT 8) will be part of the top contenders.
The Traun Lake, with a depth
of 191m is one of the deepest lakes in Austria and the second largest lake, with a length of 12km and a width
of 3km. On the east shore you see the Traunstein Mountain. The east shore is steep and ragged with very few people
living there. In the southwest you see the mountain range “Hoellengebirge” (devils range), with its
highest peak called The “Feuerkogel” (fire funnel). In the southeast there is the “Tote Gebirge”
(death range).
The sailing conditions on the Traun Lake in Austria are similar to the one on the Garda Lake in Switzerland.
Due to the steep lakeshore (about 1800m) a high pressure is created, normally resulting in thermal winds on an
almost daily basis of 3-4 on the Beaufort scale.
