Skippers & Crew
Review the information below, and then complete the Crew Bank form.
Skippers: There are many skilled sailors in the crew bank, and many people that we would love to introduce to our sport. They’re looking for weeknight and weekend racing and cruising, both dinghy and keelboat. Keep the list below. Or post your crew needs; there are people searching for a boat who haven’t posted here.
Crew: With NSC’s active weeknight and weekend racing program, there are lots of opportunities to get out racing — check out NSC’s Racing Program Overview. Interested in cruising? Other boat owners may be looking for crew for weekday, weeknight, or weekend pleasure sailing.
The more information you provide about your experience, interests, background, availability, etc., the more likely you are to find a good match.
The Crew Table
The Crew Table is effective too. Drop by the club on a keelboat race night around 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. Sit under the blue “tent” by the gate to the docks and greet people as they pass, ask: “Need a crew?” On Wednesday nights, walk the dinghy Park and ask people “Anyone need a crew?” The more nautical you look, and the more you engage people, the more sailing you will get. Don’t be shy!
Expectations
When committing to a crew or skipper, be sure that you have a good understanding of the other’s expectations. For cruising/pleasure sailing, your outing will usually be weather dependent. However, races are run rain or shine; for the Frostbite series, even snow is not cause to cancel racing. If there are active thunderstorms, racing will normally be postponed ashore, but often such storms move through quickly, allowing racing to proceed after some delay. So even if there is a torrential thunderstorm at 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., it does not mean that racing is cancelled for the day. If there is no wind, keelboats will almost always head out regardless, and often enough wind fills in to run a race. Hence, most skippers expect all of their crew to show up at the club, regardless of the forecast or actual weather.
Remember to wear non-marking, close-toed shoes; you may also want to bring a water bottle, and your own foul-weather gear and life-jacket if you have it, though many skippers have gear that you could use. Depending on the weather, and especially for dinghy crews, a dry change of clothes in the car is recommended.
NSC Membership
Non-members are welcome to register in the Crew Bank, though if you are not already an NSC member, it is our hope and expectation that you will become a crewing member if you use the club regularly.

I took my family out for weekend/day trips on our 22ft sailboat in our local Lake Travis (while we were in Texas) for many years and loved it. Looking to have fun, meet people, learn, and get on the water. I'm very easy-going, a quick-learner, and have a great sense of humor! Preferred method of communication would be a text (or email). Looking forward to hearing from you! (12 August 2025) Rong Rose Liu, rongroseliu at gmail dot com, 343-202-3806
Currently sailing out of NSC (but willing to travel to the Quebec side), I race Monday nights on the Tonguç and sub from time to time on the Blue Zulu. I started social sailing again summer 2024 and rejoined the NSC this year. I am looking to get out more and practice my skills and learn as much as I can. I am female who recently entered her 60s but am fit and active. I am happy to crew and would like to try racing, though I have never done that before. I have a keen interest in dinghy sailing, as I owned, sailed, and raced a Laser many years ago, and I loved every minute of the experience. I want to get back into the sport now that I am retired, but, because I had no recent experience in dinghy sailing, I enrolled in the Can Sail 1 / 2 course in June of 2025 to bring myself up to speed with current practices. I feel there is still a lot to learn, however, so I would love to be able to crew on a dinghy to sharpen my basic skills, and to prepare myself, eventually, for racing. I am a fit and active senior with an open schedule and availability on weeknights and weekends, but with a day's notice please, as I presently need to take public transit to get to NSC. (02 July 2025) Grégoire Parnaudeau , greg.parnaudeau at gmail dot com, 438-509-7735
I'm a 30-year-old rower with a strong love for the water and a growing passion for sailing. My sailing experience includes a 4-day Basic Cruising course on a Sonar 23, where I had the opportunity to try all crew positions, including skipper. I'm looking to join keelboat crews of any size, preferably with at least one other crew and an experienced skipper, to gain more hands-on experience and deepen my skills. I'm enthusiastic about both casual outings and competitive sailing. I'm already active in rowing regattas and would love to explore racing under sail. Sporty, a quick learner, and a good listener, I'm excited to learn from different skippers and teams, build confidence, and work toward intermediate cruising. Mostly, I'm eager to meet others who share a love for being on the water! I speak both French and English, and I'm available Mondays and Fridays at 6 pm, Saturdays all day, and Sunday afternoons/evenings. I'm responsive and open to last-minute calls.(01 July 2025) Magdalena Turlejski , magturl at yahoo dot ca, 613-422-5988
